Whether the name Umah di Beji (“Bath of the Gods”) refers to this five bedroom villa’s signature swimming pool, dramatic floating bathtub or the river that runs the entire length of the grounds is rather lost in the midst of time. What is certain is that this magnificent property represents one of Bali’s finest vacation properties that was featured in a Financial Times article regarding luxury villas in Bali.

Accessed via its own 150 metres driveway and bridge, Umah di Beji enjoys a most secluded location amongst the padi (rice) fields. The villa itself is set in a picturesque location, with gardens forming a natural amphitheatre. Various buildings, all with traditional Balinese alang-alang (thatch) roofs, frame the gardens and house the five king-sized suites. The mature garden and numerous water features range down towards the dramatic, lava rock swimming pool.

Umah di Beji is a magnificent, tranquil property of exceptional visual appeal.
In fact, the size and design of the grounds provides for many secluded seating areas making this villa the perfect location for large groups of friends or family to congregate together or enjoy private holiday time.

A large pavilion houses the main living space; an elongated open-air living and dining room with the enclosed kitchen at one end. With room to easily accommodate a twelve-seat dining table, centered below a gorgeous teak chandelier, and an eclectic mix of sofas and easy chairs, you begin to get a sense of impressive scale. Complimentary antique pieces from Lombok and tasteful modern wall hangings combine to create an ideal location for entertaining large or small groups of guests. The state-of-the-art kitchen is usefully located directly off this area so staff can easily serve and clear.

An informal dining bale (Balinese gazebo) complete with a dining/games table and daybed is positioned atop the river bank, and makes the ideal spot for afternoon drinks and quiet repose. The sound of slow flowing water from the river below and the dancing of bamboos in the breeze provide a natural serenade. A massage bale, just in front, completes the ensemble.

The master suite is enclosed in a private structure at the edge of the property, with a wooden deck atop the riverbank and a comfortable daybed from which to treasure this natural retreat. The interior of the suite is the epitome of modern Chinese luxury, housed beneath a high, dramatic ceiling displaying the intricate craft of alang-alang. The room is dominated by an enormous bed that is headed by a full-length floral wall hanging framed by dark teak beams and a beautiful example of Chinese ceramic work. Overlooking the river is a corner lounge area with soft furnishings and a study room, featuring an impressive vase collection set in built-in wall boxes and a striking golden Buddha lamp.

In keeping with the overall style of the villa, water plays a key role in the opulent design of the en suite bathroom. The focal point is a teak bale housing a sunken Kerobokan stone bathtub flanked by male and female Pembantu (helper) statues. A rectangular lotus pond with stepping stone access surrounds the bale. At night, with candles, you almost feel like you are floating amongst the lilies as you soak away a hard days relaxing! There is also a shower room, a completely enclosed lawn area for private sunbathing and a separate decked bale, ideal for Ti Chi or meditation.

The second and third bedrooms share an outdoor lounge with natural furnishings and immaculate gardens. Both rooms also boast private terraces, including a breakfasting terrace in the third bedroom. The white washed rooms host examples of Indonesian batik designs and stamps. The second bedroom has a mosquito-canopied king-sized bed mounted on a teak platform and lavished with layers of white cushions. The third bedroom is of similar design with twin beds. Sandwiched between the Oriental glass doors of the bedrooms and en suite bathrooms, are dressing rooms with sunken square basins.

The fourth bedroom has a sumptuous four-poster bed and the interior design combines a mixture of woods and natural fiber furnishings. The structure housing bedroom five has ornate Balinese carved doors, a private seating deck overlooking the river valley and the rice terraces beyond. Furnishings include a teak four-poster and an antique mounted Javanese topeng (mask) set on the writing desk.

All bedrooms benefit from en suites which are among the best examples of all fresco bathrooms. Each boasts a sunken stone bathtub and gargoyle showers within a private garden where you can indulge the senses in a warm shower under a star-filled evening sky.
All bedrooms are equipped with VCD players and sound systems can be found throughout the living and dining areas. The master bedroom boasts a DVD player.

The deep 15m x 5m infinity edged pool rises against the falling slope for dramatic effect. Lava rock stone tastefully blends into the garden surround and is fronted by a smaller pool complete with gargoyle fountains that resemble the royal hot springs found elsewhere in Bali. A wooden sundeck reaches back from the poolside towards the boundary river below. Patterned pathways, throughout the landscaped grounds, lead to many delightfully secluded spots and examples of both Buddhist and Balinese Hindu statues.

Located within easy reach of Bali’s Southern beach resort of Seminyak and the luxurious restaurants, clubs and boutiques in Oberoi, Umah di Beji is an excellent base for holiday rest or Bali exploration. Specifically, the villa is 1km from the beach, and approximately 40 minutes from the airport. The prestigious Meridien golf course by Tanah Lot temple is around 15 minutes away. Bali’s cultural centre, Ubud, can be reached within 45 minutes.
Umah di Beji commands the very essence of luxury; superior interior and exterior presentation; an eye for quality art and creative flair, making this premier villa a first class choice for a vacation in Bali.

Staff
Umah di Beji is professionally managed by Bali’s premier property services company, Bali Homes Management.

The staff compliment includes:

One house manager
Juwono oversees and coordinates the staff, maintains the property and is available to assist guests during their stay.

One full-time cook
Trained in the preparation of both local and international cuisine. A menu is provided and the staff will do all the necessary market shopping.

Four maids
Responsible for housekeeping duties, taking care of your daily laundry and providing waiter service around the grounds and buildings of the property.

Eight security guards
Their duties are to patrol the grounds and guard the entrance of the villa from dusk to dawn ensuring your security.

Tending the garden and the grounds of the villa. They ensure that the facilities of the villa run smoothly during your visit.

Villa Tukad Pangi is not your average Bali villa. Sure, it’s stylish – in fact it recently featured in the Brava Casa interior magazine.

But unlike some of those clinically chic places that border on being soulless, Villa Tukad Pangi is all about design that makes you feel thoroughly at ease.

Consider the lounge. The built-in couches are generously long and wide, more like a day bed really. They feature extra-broad edges, so you never need to reach far for that book, or drink. And when it’s time for something more active, the upper pool is literally a couple of steps away. The retractable 145 inch projector screen is equally user-friendly. One touch and it descends from the lounge ceiling, after which you’re all set for Cable TV or a movie from our wide selection of DVDs.

Your bedroom has huge glass sliding doors and wooden venetian blinds. Open them and Bali floods in. Close them, and you can seal yourself off for some peace and quiet. You needn’t leave the room for entertainment; there’s a 26? flat screen TV and 5.1 Channel Home Theatre speaker system. The sub-woofer sits under your bed, so you don’t just watch movies: you feel them. Last but certainly not least, the ensuite bathroom…

… the ensuite bathroom features a classic, open-to-the-skies Balinese shower surrounded by native plants. The large “Rain head” makes bathing even more of an indulgence.

From the lower infinity pool you’ll look out over the Pangi river and padi fields that stretch from across the opposite bank and off into the distance. You’re close to nature here. Butterflies flit past, dragonflies hover in the sunlight and birdsong mingles with the melody of the river. This pool is especially refreshing and not just because of the view…it’s shaded by palms and towering gatep trees.

When you emerge from the lower pool, the Bale awaits. A Bale is a traditional gazebo found throughout Indonesia. The Tukad Pangi version is fully equipped with a ceiling fan, power points and reading lights, making it an excellent place to lounge, day or night.

It’s also ideal for some serious pampering. One of the highlights of your stay here will be a massage in the Bale, with the soothing sounds of the river to complete the experience.

Then there’s The Studio. Think of it as a multimedia room on steroids. It boasts an 84?Absolute projector screen, Infocus DLP Home Theater projector, DVD Player, Cable TV and Yamaha Home Theatre Surround Sound System.

Help yourself to our DVD library, or if you’ve brought your own entertainment, hook up your laptop to the projector using the pre-installed VGA cabling. Likewise, the Yamaha sound system has audio connections for your iPod or Smartphone.

The kitchen. One of the most important rooms in the Villa, because we believe great food is essential for a great holiday. That’s why we pride ourselves on providing you with an excellent menu. Our cook, Nyoman, has worked in some of Bali’s leading restaurants including Ku de Ta. So he’s equally adept at Asian and Western cuisine. If you’d like to view our current menu, please click here.

Exploring the surroundings. A great way to do this is by bicycle. There are two “Monarch 6? mountain bikes at your disposal. One of the most pleasant cycles is an early morning jaunt to Pererenan beach. It will take approximately 10 minutes and you can take in the sights and sounds of village life on the way there. If you’d rather walk, an evening stroll to Pererenan beach to view the sunset is highly recommended: it can be spectacular.

Location
Rice padi views. Quiet beaches. 15 minutes to Seminyak and Tanah Lot. In short, all the benefits of a Canggu location. With the added bonus of being right beside the Pangi river

Facilities

3 air-conditioned bedrooms with 3 double beds

All bedrooms equipped with 26? flat screen TV and 5.1 Channel Home Theatre speaker system, plus iPod/mp3 player connection

Air-conditioned Studio/Multimedia room equipped with 84?Absolute projector screen, Infocus DLP Home Theater projector, DVD Player, Cable TV and Yamaha Home Theatre Surround Sound System (with iPod/mp3 player connection)

Two infinity pools. Upper pool: meter lap pool and 10 meter square pool

Tanju Bali villa is one of Bali’s finest villas. Located directly on the beach in a unique setting overlooking a Hindu Temple in the sea and enjoying Panoramic Sunset views.
The Villa is only 10 minutes from the Greg Norman Designed Nirwana Golf Course and Le Meridian Hotels whilst equidistant from Bedugul and Nusa Dua Golf courses.

The approach to the Villa winds through Balinese villages surrounded by paddy fields and features ornate Balinese Temple and huge Banyan Trees.
Only 30 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from Legian and Seminyak, this villa captures the very essence of Bali and all its culture charm.

Setting:
Set on a large rocky outcrop and the cloudy peaks of Gunung Agung to the north.
Set on 2,400 square meters of gently sloping grounds, studded with coconut palms and fragrant frangipani trees, with a crystal clear 15 meter x 4,5 meter lap swimming pool this home is a wonderful retreat, far from the gaiety of tourist Bali.

Views from the Villa take in the Hindu Temple in the Ocean to the South, sunset over the ocean to the west, volcanoes to the North and East.

The villa was designed and built by PT. Triadi the same International Group who built the Four Seasons Hotel in Bali, and is refreshingly uncomplicated and simple in design with the sympathetic use of traditional Balinese architectural concepts and utilization of the best of local timbers and handcrafted stones and offers you every modern amenity.

Cuisine:
The staff has been trained to serve you in comfort and elegance. Every effort will be made to accommodate your dining requests and special dietary needs. The cooks know how to shop for premium quality produce and all meals are provided to you at cost.
Living & Dining Pavilion

Entering the main open air living and dining pavilion, guests will step over ornamental ponds fed by gin-clear natural spring water. With a large dining table at one end and a bar at the other, this raised pavilion presides over the garden and is furnished with comfy daybeds and sofas, a big coffee table and Buddha lamp stands. The coffee and cream décor, together with the reddish-hued bengkirai wood floor, sets the theme throughout the property, while natural breezes enhanced by paddle ceiling fans keep the area cool.

Garden and Swimming Pool

Wide lava stone steps lead down onto a grass and paving stone chequerboard terrace, ideal for dance performances and cocktail parties. Two ancient frangipani trees, together with a Buddha head set within an alcove in one corner, create a peaceful ambience. More steps wind down onto another lawn towards the swimming pool.
The swimming pool is elevated above the garden, and flanked by a delightful gazebo known as a ‘bale bengong’, meaning “a place to relax, dream and do nothing”. Complete with a large wooden cowbell, which guests can ring whenever they need to be served with drinks, refreshments or lunch, the gazebo is made comfortable with soft cushions. The raised timber pool deck is furnished with ten sunloungers and four umbrellas. The pool measures 13 x 5.6 metres and is 1.6 metres in depth. It is bordered on one side by towering mature trees alongside one of the rivers against a backdrop of rice terraces. Three more Buddha statues rest serenely in alcoves watching over the garden and pool. The pool area is perfect for barbeques dinners, and looks very romantic at night when it is lit by candles. Pathways meander through the multi-levelled gardens, which roll down the rivers and feature relaxing riverside bale pavilions, furnished with coffee-coloured cushions and soft cream drapes.

Bedrooms 1, 2, 3 & 4

The bedrooms and their adjoining garden bathrooms are all located in self contained thatched pavilions. Bedrooms 1 & 2 are linked by an open corridor sheltered by a roof. A living tree has been preserved and grows straight through the roof of the corridor, in front of which is a wooden balcony-style deck, complete with a built-in daybed overlooking the river and the beautiful temple on the opposite side.
Each air-conditioned bedroom is entered by double doors showcasing engraved brass handles, and each is characterised by dark reddish brown bengkirai wood floors under soaring roofs. Every bedroom boasts an LCD flat screen individually controlled satellite TV, enabling guests to watch satellite channels independently of each other. Each is complemented by a DVD player, quality sound system and iPod dock. Bedrooms 1, 3 & 4 are furnished with built-in canopied double beds made up with crisp white bed linen. Bedroom 2 features two single beds. Picture windows capture the riverside views, and opulent open-air bathrooms boast cream terrazzo floors, twin washbasins, daybeds for lounging, and large terrazzo bathtubs. The tubs are sheltered from the elements yet positioned within private walled gardens enhanced by soft lawns, frangipani trees, and stone carved ornaments. Each bathroom also features a toilet with an intercom, and a shower in a cubicle that is open on one side to the garden. Furthermore, every guest need is considered with the provision of storage space, wardrobes and mini bars in each room. Sliding wooden shutters behind the beds can be opened so that guests can look out into the bathroom and garden if they wish.

Master Bedroom

The Master Bedroom features a deck-style balcony on two sides, with steps that lead down to a riverside bale relaxation pavilion. The bedroom is notable for the Buddha head and soft panels behind the double bed, flanked by two polished solid wood tree trunks, lit with discreet lighting. There is also a desk, and a dressing area with a huge mirror and a padded ottoman. The bathroom and outdoor Jacuzzi is accessed by a covered walkway with wooden pillars and spring water ponds on either side. The Jacuzzi rests within a thatched pavilion, surrounded by flowering shrubs and overlooking the river. The bathroom features arched open doorways, comfortable furnishings, twin washbasins, a toilet, and a shower big enough for two.

Guest Washrooms

The Guest Washrooms are situated in a thatched pavilion with orange walls and painted wooden fretwork screens, adding a bold splash of colour to the decor.

Kitchen

The Kitchen is a chef’s dream. Spacious, immaculate and professionally equipped, it features cream terrazzo surfaces, cabinets and adjacent store rooms. There is also a laundry and a service area hidden away at the back.

Spa

The spa sits on the triangular piece of land at the point where the two rivers meet. A sacred underground spring was recently discovered on this enchanted spot, making it the perfect setting for a spa. On the opposite side of the river is Batur Sari Temple, where the local Balinese people make offerings of flowers and fruit to the gods.
The spa area is accessed via a little bridge under a pergola dripping in cascading thunbergia, bounded by torch ginger, giant taro leaves and frangipani trees. Guests will be greeted by a pair of open-air, raised, stone bathtubs exquisitely hand carved, each in the shape of a 2-headed elephant with water spouting from the trunks. The tubs, complete with ornate floral patterns on the sides, are set within a spring water pool and accessed by a wooden deck. This is a magical place for a splash or a soak after a spa treatment.
The spa is comprised of five open-sided roundhouses complete with conical thatched roofs following the architectural style of Irian Jaya. There are two raised massage pavilions, one with a single treatment bed and the other designed for couples, with two treatment beds. Rustic and very romantic, the pavilions are furnished with chunky hand carved furniture and diaphanous drapes that can be drawn for privacy. Set right beside the river, guests will be massaged to the constant gurgle of the water. Two more pavilions house a pair of hot and a cold Jacuzzis fashioned from dark grey lava stone; each circular Jacuzzi is big enough for six people, and looks directly across the river to the temple

This impressive yet gracious ocean front property is located less than 50 meters away from the water in the tiny coastal fishing village of Seseh, 25 km north of the international airport, a 20 to 25 minute ride from the nightlife of Seminyak and Kuta, 15 minutes from the temple of Tanah Lot temple, Bali’s most visited attraction and the world famous Nirvana Golf Course.

Accessible through a picturesque coconut tree-lined country road running through completely unspoiled emerald green rice, the Shores Villa is located in one the last preserved areas of the popular region of Canggu. It is completely isolated in its verdant settings.

The rugged scenery, combined with a languid pace of life in an elegant atmosphere, makes this unique property an ideal getaway for demanding travelers.

Set in a large tropical garden (1,600m2) with two swimming pools, a large infinity- edge swimming pool and an “Olympic” (30m) indoor/outdoor lap pool, the Shores Villa’s inspiring design by acclaimed tropical architect V. A unique feature of the vast elevated living/lounge area is a glass floor showing the swimming pool underneath. While the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the living and dining room areas provide a panoramic view of the ocean.

At night, the glowing waters of the slim outdoor/indoor lap pool crossing below the lounge to meet the ocean front infinity-edge pool creates a spectacular scene throughout the house!

On the second floor, the two identical bedrooms with their spacious balconies almost make one feels on top of a cruise liner’s bow, the crashing waves are within arm’s reach. From here, guests can have a vantage point to watch the local Jukungs perpetuate a traditional way of fishing. Additionally, there is a media room filled with a complete home theater system, cable TV, DVD player and a game console.

Behind the main house, the L-shaped guest pavilion is a traditional Balinese house, which was completely remodeled to modern standards. It has 2 bedrooms, similar in size and decoration giving a view of the ocean and the lush garden.

For those dedicated to leading a spiritually balanced existence, the Yoga bale provides an inspirational setting for relaxation and meditation.

Thus the possibilities of the Shores Villa are endless, its versatility is for the visitors to explore.

Villa Sarasvati is the second villa located within the prestigious Villas Dea development.
The villa is a five-bedroom property comprised of two distinct areas, each with a private entrance and a private pool, thereby presenting guests with a one, four, or five bedroom renting option. On one side is a contemporary 4-bedroom villa and on the other side is a one-bedroom antique Joglo house.

Conceived in perfect harmony with the peaceful surroundings, spa treatments at Sarasvati take place in the privacy of the antique timber spa building, which presents two massage beds, washroom and outdoor rain shower. Combining beauty and well-being, traditional treatments such as mandi lulur, Balinese massage or reflexology, administered by skilled therapists, will make guests feel reborn, awakening the mind, body and soul.

An added benefit of a stay at Villa Sarasvati is that guests also enjoy the full use of the services and facilities of the nearby Canggu Club, the only exclusive members club in Bali.

ACCOMMODATION
Villa Sarasvati is a five-bedroom property comprised of two distinct areas, each with a private entrance and a private pool. On one side is a contemporary four-bedroom villa and on the other side is a one-bedroom antique Gladak house. Both entrances are heralded by carved stone murals introducing Sarasvati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, wisdom and the arts, after which the villa takes its name. The main villa comprises a stand-alone multipurpose studio room, a long entrance hall, four bedrooms, a living & dining pavilion with a feature kitchen, an air-conditioned TV lounge, a pergola garden room, flat lawn and 17-metre lap pool. The contemporary tropical architecture utilises local materials while the eclectic interiors ooze with style, visual texture, antiques and rich fabrics. The second area is incorporates the Gladak, complete with ensuite bathroom, kitchenette and verandah. This gorgeous old house is a traditional high-peaked teakwood building representing a bygone era, yet with all the comforts of modern day living. There is also an antique wooden spa building (available when the Gladak House is included in one of the rental options), a timber relaxation gazebo, an elevated rice field shelter known as a ‘Pondok’, a free form swimming pool, a giant chess set and a Pétanque court, set within an exceptional rambling garden, which rolls down to the rice fields.

BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS
At Villa Sarasvati, there are five air-conditioned bedrooms, one of which is located in the antique Gladak House – stunningly furnished with a king-size bed and an antique wardrobe, complemented by lush soft furnishings, and equipped with a TV/DVD player. The rustic ensuite bathroom is semi open-air, sheltered by a pergola roof and extending out into a private walled garden. It is equipped with a hollowed out river rock bathtub for two, and a two rainshowers, one indoors and one outside. The master bedroom in the main villa is on ground level, entered via an anteroom and completed with a huge dressing room. The ensuite indoor/outdoor master bathroom is fitted with a freestanding terrazzo bathtub, positioned within a glass walled area, with doors that can be slid open to the private garden for a semi-alfresco bathing experience. There are two rainshowers, one indoors, and one open to the sky in the spacious shrub-filled garden. Each bedroom in the main villa, including the master, has a built-in cushioned daybed along one wall, a four-poster king size bed, teak furnishings, and a TV/DVD player. Each ensuite bathroom is fitted with twin washbasins, walk-in rainshower and bathtub. The downstairs guestroom has a semi open-air bathroom bordered by an ornamental pond with Ganesha statues spouting running water. The two upstairs bathrooms are characterised by open air rooftop terraces, each with a romantic outdoor bathtub resting under a pergola.

FAMILY ROOMS
Each villa presents a cosy, air-conditioned, family room, located upstairs. Each is furnished with comfortable sofas and equipped with a large flat screen satellite channel TV and DVD player with surround sound.

LIVING AND DINING
Running the length of the garden beside each of the main swimming pools, the single-storey living & dining pavilions at both of the villas are hugely spacious and ideal for entertaining. Each features an open-plan modern kitchen at one end.

At Villa Sarasvati, the pavilion is fitted with sliding glass doors, which can be closed for air-conditioned comfort. The splendid dining table seats 14, with bench stools and a grand cane planter chair at either end. Five giant, clear glass bell-jar lanterns hang over the table and the room is lovingly adorned with a collection of antique wooden artefacts. There is also a tactile sculpture that pivots on its stand to form a screen beside the living space, which is furnished with cane sofas and armchairs.
At the far end of each of the living & dining pavilions, overlooking the rice field, is a pergola with a floor composed of ironwood decking. at Villa Sarasvati, it is a sunny sitting room, furnished with a large sofa and coffee table.

LOCATION
Dea Villas are located within the beautiful agricultural belt between Kuta and Tanah Lot, an area that is home to some of the most luxurious private residences on the island. Trendy Seminyak, with its wide choice of international restaurants, chic cocktail bars, exciting nightclubs, lavish spas and elegant boutiques, is a mere 20 minutes’ drive away.

Neighbouring sporting facilities include the Canggu Club, offering sports, social and leisure facilities.

Villa Sadia is a private four-bedroom Bali villa, located in the traditional village of Tiyingtutul and blessed with beautiful rural views. The two-storey building is distinguished by its contemporary tropical architecture, fresh white walls, lime washed teak doors and structural elements, and is complimented with stylish modern furnishings.

This holiday rental villa in Bali comprises an open plan living and dining area flanked by a fully equipped feature kitchen, an upstairs sitting room, and four bedrooms, each with ensuite bathrooms, one of which is situated in a self contained guest pavilion.

Other features include a wide upstairs balcony and a sunny ground floor terrace that extends into a gorgeous garden that slopes down to a 12-metre swimming pool, complete with a pool bar.

Space, style and simplicity define this charming Bali villa that is framed by the terraced rice fields that characterize the island’s heritage.

Bedrooms
The master bedroom is located upstairs and is furnished with a canopied four poster king size bed, fitted cupboards, a sofa, bedside tables and lamps. Also upstairs is a similar bedroom with twin beds that can convert to a king sized bed, depending on guest’s preferences. Both of these bedrooms feature sliding glass doors that open onto a wide balcony terrace furnished with sofas.

Downstairs is another bedroom with a king-sized bed, a sofa and a small dressing area, while on the opposite side of the entrance courtyard is a stand-alone guest pavilion flaunting a turquoise theme and furnished with a king-sized four poster bed.

Each bedroom has a sunny ensuite bathroom, which is completely enclosed but has the feeling of being in the open air due to its glass roof and leafy plants. All the bathrooms has a non slip floor, stylishly bordered by loose pebbles and stepping stones, and is fitted with a terrazzo vanity unit and washbasin, a toilet and a standing rainshower. Three of the bathrooms are fitted with freestanding terrazzo bathtubs.

Living & Dining Room
The open-plan living and dining room presents white walls and a white terrazzo floor. It is cooled by ceiling fans and natural breezes, and bordered by glass doors that slide open onto a broad garden terrace, inviting the view indoors.

Positioned adjacent to the feature kitchen, lies the dining area, simply furnished with a table for eight. The living area is separated from the dining room by a right angled half wall that makes up the back of the built in L-shaped sofa, featuring a wide and comfortable cushioned seating and is complimented with an LCD flat screen, satellite-channel TV, complete with DVD player and quality audio system with six speakers.

On one side of the living space, glass doors open to a fish pond with stepping stones, and on the other to the sunny terrace, furnished with all-weather rattan daybeds and a table. This is a great spot for barbeques, expertly prepared by the staff using the gas-fired barbeque grill, which is also positioned on the terrace. A guest washroom is located just off the living room.

Upstairs Sitting Room
At the top of the gated staircase is another sitting room, sporting a bold red theme nestled in the midst of all the white décor that characterises the villa. This room offers a more private and cosy, air-conditioned option for watching TV or reading.

Here, red lanterns hang from a vaulted roof above a terrazzo floor, and sofas are positioned around a coffee table and a red shaggy pile rug, while the large LCD flat screen, satellite-channel TV and DVD player sits in a red cabinet, featuring surround sound with multiple speakers.

There is a balcony on either side of this room; one overlooks the pretty entrance garden courtyard, while the other overlooks the main garden and pool, with glorious views of the rice terraces.

Kitchen
The immaculate fully equipped kitchen is a dream in white, featuring white cabinets – well stocked with tableware and glassware, white polished marble work surfaces and a service bar.

This space of creation features an imported oven with a five-burner gas hob, a large fridge and all of the other modern cooking and food preparation appliances that the in house cooks need for the creation of delicious meals.

Garden & Pool
Three steps lead from the terrace into a neat and pretty walled garden, planted with ornamental palms, giant taro and flowering shrubs. A pathway runs through the velvety lawn, which gently slopes down to the swimming pool and a tree-lined river with rice terraces rising steeply on the other side.

The stone pool deck and furnishings follow the white theme of the villa, with four sunbeds and two umbrellas. At one end of the pool is pavilion with a flat roof supported by pillars, housing a bar with four stools. There is also a table for alfresco dining, while a large mirror behind the bar reflects the greenery of the garden and expands the space. The sparkling 12-metre swimming pool incorporates a children’s pool at one end. There is an outdoor pool shower for the convenience of the guests, and a bubbling Buddha head water feature, which enhances the serene ambience.

Location
Villa Sadia is hidden away in the traditional village Tiyingtukul, just ten minutes’ drive from the beach at Canggu on Bali’s south west coast. The nearby Echo Beach offers a choice of eateries, live music, world-class surf breaks and stunning coastline views, making it a great place to watch the sunset.

The trendy Seminyak area is just 25 minutes’ drive from the villa, presenting an exciting nightlife, together with an abundance of boutiques, luxurious spas, and internationally acclaimed restaurants, including the famous Ku de Ta, ‘Kafé Warisan, La Lucciola and Sarong restaurants.

Furthermore, SABA offers guests the choice of different levels of service, ranging from completely private, self contained living, up to the luxurious option of being fully pampered with chefs, butlers and a comprehensive menu of services.

ABOUT SABA

SABA embraces seclusion, relaxation and comfort within a tranquil setting surrounded by rice paddies in the village of Berawa on Bali’s southwest coast, less than 10 minutes from the bustling heart of trendy Seminyak.

This beautiful setting offers the double attraction of being relatively close to everything that guests might need, while also offering visitors a privileged insight into the traditions of rural Bali. Cows are herded through the fields, the sound of ritual music is carried on the breeze, and guests can witness the farmers hand-ploughing the fields or harvesting the rice.

Designed by internationally-renowned architect, Ross Franklin, the contemporary styled properties feature large bedrooms, garden bathrooms, open air living and dining pavilions, well equipped kitchens, swimming pools, gorgeous tropical gardens, sculptures, commissioned artwork, water features, cable TVs and DVD players, as well as WiFi internet access throughout.

All five villas are situated around a private, central courtyard with parking facilities for up to five cars, and a 24-hour staffed, service area with a fully equipped service kitchen and laundry, plus power back-up generator.

The name SABA appropriately means “a place frequented” or “a meeting place” in Sanskrit, the originating language for Balinese.

ACCOMMODATION

Bedrooms

Each spacious, air-conditioned bedroom features a teakwood floor, sliding glass doors that open into the garden, fitted wardrobes with drawers and hanging space, and a wall safe. Each of the master bedrooms in the two-bedroom villas is furnished with a king size bed, while each guest bedroom presents a queen-sized bed that can be converted into twin beds if required. The one-bedroom ‘honeymoon villa’, offers a king-sized bed which may also be converted to twin bed accommodation. Each master bedroom also has a ceiling fan, a desk and chair behind the bed and a dressing area with a dressing table and a mirror. All bedrooms are equipped with a 37” LCD TV/DVD player and cable television plus a JBL Radial iPod speaker system. Each en-suite open air bathroom is fitted with a terrazzo bathtub, a standing rainshower, double washbasins and a toilet. Bathroom floors are non-slip, while bathtubs and showers are sheltered from the elements by overhanging roofs. The bathroom in the one-bedroom villa offers direct access to the 10-metre pool.

Living and Dining

Of the four, two-bedroom villas, two have very extensive living/entertaining areas. Each has an indoor, air-conditioned dining room, furnished with a large dining table and adjoining an open plan, well equipped kitchen. These two villas also boast standalone, open-sided, living pavilions with a soaring roof, positioned beside the 15-metre pools. Living areas are furnished with deeply cushioned segmented sofas, ottomans and coffee tables.

Each of the other two, two-bedroom villas has open-air living combined with a dining area beside a 13-metre pool, complemented by a separate kitchen. The one-bedroom villa features an open-air living and dining room with an open plan kitchenette. All living areas are provided with a Bose Sound Dock and fully loaded iPod Classic, with a huge, diverse collection of music to suit all tastes.

Kitchens

The fully equipped, gourmet kitchens in each of the two-bedroom villas are fitted with teak units and include full-sized fridges, ovens, five-burner gas hobs, microwaves, blenders and toasters. The one bedroom villa has a kitchenette with a single-burner gas hob, a fridge and a microwave.

Gardens and Pools

The private, walled, tropical gardens of SABA present lush, flat lawns, colourful shrubs, flowering trees and impressive sculptures.

Each of the two largest villas has a 15-metre swimming pool as well as a ‘bale’ relaxation pavilion. Each of the other two-bedroom villas has a 13-metre pool, one of which is heralded by a ‘bale’ pavilion. The one-bedroom villa has a 10-metre pool with timber deck. The pool decks are furnished with sunbeds and sun umbrellas. Please note the pools require toddler supervision.

Amenities

This quite extraordinary dwelling is one of Bali’s newest and most opulent mansions, and yet the moment you enter Villa RaJa, it’s as if you’ve taken a time machine back to Bali’s golden era of architecture. Tired of the plethora of minimalist “Bali Zen” villas springing up across the island, owners Ralph and Janet Hogan set out to turn back the clock and create an architectural masterpiece to showcase the myriad textures, styles, arts and crafts for which Bali is so rightly famous.

Crafted by two of the island’s most talented traditional builders, this is a structure of great beauty with a timeless patina which weaves state of the art technology into a fabulous fabric of antiquity. 400 year old timbers, richly carved paneling, coral, pebbles, limestone, marble and even re-cut Art Deco roof tiles decorate every aspect of the building.

Beneath this dramatic exterior, new buildings frame and stabilise an ancient 12 metre high ironwood and teak “jineng”, containing the ground floor media room (complete with giant cinema screen and foundation-shaking Yamaha sound system.) Upstairs, an unforgettable master bedroom, with soaring 6 metre ceilings and sweeping views of the surrounding rice paddies. The massive antique carved bedhead frames a king size bed and was once a prestigious house façade in Java. One visitor likens spending a night here to “sleeping in the world’s sexiest art gallery,” with waxed, black ironwood floors, massive teak beams and, wrapping around the room, the unfolding saga of the Ramayana in beautiful, softly lit kamisan paintings.

The bedroom leads onto a separate walk in robe (huge) complete with safe, and an exotic, hand-formed ensuite bathroom that’s straight out of the Arabian nights. This in turn opens onto the eye-popping Gaudi-esque outdoor shower, patterned entirely underfoot and on all sides with a dazzling collection of 1920s terrazzo tiles rescued from mansions being demolished in Java.

The villa features another 3 stunning bedrooms with beautiful ensuite bathrooms. One forms the upper floor of a separate smaller timber jineng which overhangs the huge 20 metre lpool, rimmed with carved stone and fed by spouting, 2 metre stone statues. Here you swim in drinkable water produced by a sophisticated colloidal silver purification plant. The pool also features an 8 metre waterslide made by the builders of Bali’s famous roller coaster waterslide centre, “Waterbom” in Kuta.

Like the country which inspired it, Villa RaJa is itself an unforgettable cultural experience. From the huge ‘fantastic creatures” front door (carved out of a 1000 year old sprawling lychee root) to the magnificent, carved Borobodur style taro stone gate; or the priceless antique Sumba stone ceremonial slab which serves as a bridge to the dining gazebo, which “floats” on a water lily pond, replete with giant fish. This is indeed a photographer’s paradise.

The Healthiest Villa in Bali
After 20 years of tolerating wrenching gut problems, twisted limbs from shonky architecture, lying awake to an insane cacophany of flirting geckos and fighting rodents, or sweltering in the heat while drowning in mosquito repellant, the owners decided that some aspects of their villa would be quintessentially un-Balinese.

Insect screens, (practically unknown in Bali) protect all bedroom and bathroom windows at Villa Raja. All rooms are air conditioned and supplied with fans as well. The buildings have been built to Western safety design standards so no shonky, wobbly steps, cracked paths or dangerous shortcuts here.

A sophisticated advanced secondary sewerage treatment system ensures that Villa RaJa only recycles clean, safe water back into the Balinese environment.

Kitchen staff have been trained in Western standards of hygiene and prepare food in two impeccably clean and modern kitchens (one for guests, one for kitchen staff) but of course training is of little use in a country where an ice block in your gin and tonic can put you on your back for a week.

Water, water everywhere but not a drop you’d drink
If there is one thing as synonymous with Bali as beauty, it’s tourists laid down with Bali Belly. Bali’s water is decidedly 3rd world and everyone uses bottled water to drink, brush teeth etc. But it’s pretty well impossible, if not financially unviable, to wash food in bottled water, or shower and wash in it, which is why the owners have installed a state of the art water purification plant, again using the colloidal silver filtration system, the world’s most effective water purification technology (as used on the space shuttle.) Pure, totally safe drinking water is piped to all showers, basins etc in the house.

Summary of features:

The buildings are linked by pergola-covered walkways, achieving a unique sense of space within a natural setting. Maximising the spectacular views and the natural light, and catching the cool breezes even at the hottest time of year, the property offers a blend of air-conditioned comfort and tropical open-air living.

There are numerous relaxation areas, so guests will always find a private spot for peace and quiet. It is ideal for large groups or families with children. Puri Bawana is a member of the Canggu Club (Bali’s first country club) and its guests are eligible to use the club facilities.

Entrance

Guests enter the estate via a spacious car parking area. An antique door then opens into a grand entrance pavilion complete with a carved Palimanan stone screen and a Balinese Hindu feature known as the ‘aling aling’, a short screen wall designed to protect the villa from troublesome and malign influences, because evil spirits have great difficulty in turning corners. Guests will then cross a timber bridge over a reflecting ornamental pool.

Living Pavilion

The magnificent Living Pavilion presides over the property. It is flanked by a terrace laid with grass-edged Palimanan paving stones, and overlooks the swimming pool, terraced gardens and rice fields. This open-sided pavilion is modelled upon the traditional Balinese ‘Wantilan’, or village meeting place, with a soaring, two-tiered roof supported by pillars, complete with pendulous lanterns and ceiling fans above a mint-white sandstone floor. The expansive space is furnished with two comfortable sofas, ottomans, a coffee table, a decorative, antique Javanese daybed, and a pair of white coconut shell chairs with a small matching table. The Living Pavilion is linked to the rest of the villa by a covered, colonnaded walkway with black and white chequered tiles. Off the walkway is situated a guest washroom decorated with Indian stone tiles and accessed by a colourful, antique Balinese door.

Dining Pavilion

The open-sided Dining Pavilion is elevated above a high buttresses composed of indigenous serai stone, portraying a geometric jigsaw of shapes. A long suar wood dining table seats up to 14 dinner guests. The pavilion is cooled by natural breezes and ceiling fans and commands fabulous views of the bordering rice fields.

Kitchens

There are two fully equipped kitchens at Puri Bawana Estate servicing the villa, one is the service kitchen and the other is a state-of-the-art kitchen positioned next to the dining pavilion and linked by a large service bar. This immaculate, designer kitchen reveals a discriminating taste for functional beauty and cutting-edge style. Crafted in black marble with a central island, silver grey units and glassless shuttered windows, it is equipped with a hob, oven, wine fridge, coffee machine and other high tech appliances. There is even the provision of a sound system.

Kids’ Bedroom / Nanny’s Room

A staircase leads down under the Dining Pavilion to a small ‘spill-over’ room, which can sleep up to five kids. It is fitted with bunk beds and is also suitable for a children’s nanny. There is a bathroom next door with a toilet, shower and washbasin.

TV & Entertainment Room

Also located under the Dining Pavilion, is the air-conditioned TV and Entertainment Room. The room is equipped with a ceiling fan, teak wall units, and a large satellite TV mounted upon the wall, complete with surround sound, a DVD/CD player, and a Wii Game System. The furnishings?two large sofas, a glass-topped antique coffee table and two ottomans?can be pushed back against the wall to create an impressive party space. In one corner is a bar that can double as a DJ’s nook. Glass doors open from the Entertainment Room onto a terrace with a pergola supported by serai stone pillars beside the pool deck. Furnished with an outdoor dining table for eight, this is a great spot for a barbeque.

Swimming Pool & Garden

The swimming pool is 30 metres in length, incorporating a kids’ pool at one end. It is lined with rustic blue Java stone and the curved infinity edge follows the contour of the rice terraces.

The Palimanan stone pool deck is furnished with sun loungers and there is an open-sided ‘bale’, relaxation pavilion, positioned within the pool and accessed by stepping stones. Additionally, a raised walkway leads to an elevated bale, a traditional lazy, breezy gazebo with a thatched roof, open sides and a cushioned floor. There is an outdoor dining table with seats for 8, that is often used for outdoor barbeques and casual daytime dining.

This is the place to relax, contemplate and meditate, overlooking the river and enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, butterflies and birds. A wide flat lawn planted with four palms is the ideal setting for parties, weddings and events. A pathway leads down to the river and the gardens spill out into the padi fields to a traditional pavilion designed for wedding ceremonies.
